New Bern Art – Paintings, drawing, pottery created by New Bern artist Janet Francoeur. Janet has been painting New Bern, North Carolina since 1989. She works in clay, watercolors and oils. She started Carolina Creations in Downtown New Bern in 1990 where she sold her work and the work of 300 local, regional, and national artists and fine craftsmen. She sold the business in 2017 but it continues at the same location 317 Pollock Street and they continue to sell Janet’s work. Janet is best known for her paintings of New Bern architecture. Born in Michigan Janet completed her BA in drawing and printmaking from Siena Heights University. Through the years she worked in the printing industry at Tecumseh Printers, Tecumseh, Michigan then the art department of the Aspen Times, in Aspen, Colorado, before relocating to New Bern and opening Carolina Creations.
Janet Francoeur is a painter, a tile maker, a wanna be writer, an ok photographer, a gardener, she has wanderlust and not enough time to do everything she wants to do! Jan, as she likes to be called, has been a professional artist her entire adult life. She started with drawing in pencil, then ink, then watercolor, clay and now oil and mosaic. For 25 years she did house portraits in ink and for the past 15 years she also does them in watercolor. Jan and her husband Michael moved to New Bern, North Carolina in 1989 from Aspen, Colorado, where they had lived for 6 years. They were both born and raised in southern Michigan not far from Ann Arbor.
